Marble Falls softball begins district play against Jarrell
The Marble Falls High School softball team welcomes Jarrell at noon Tuesday, March 14, to Scearce Field in the District 24-4A opener.
“This is a very tough district because it’s top loaded with teams with experience,” head coach Alex Lozoya said. “They have pitchers with experience with some composure and have tough games under their belt.”
Burnet, Georgetown Gateway and Lampasas are expected to vie for the championship. Jarrell has won at least 10 games.
“Lampasas is looking very good and comfortable in the way they play,” Lozoya said. “They beat Glen Rose by 10 runs.”
The Lady Mustangs are coming off a 10-0 loss to Fredericksburg March 10 in five innings. Freshman pitcher Marisol Ramos was credited with the loss.
“She didn’t give up that many earned runs,” the coach said. “We couldn’t execute on defense. Marisol did a great job in the circle.”
One important element coaches continue to emphasis is the importance of stepping up to make plays every opportunity, he said. That commitment will be especially important now.
“Coaches talk to them that when you’re in position to make plays, you need to make plays,” he said. “It was a matter of execution on defense.”
Lozoya said improvement begins with him.
“I need to work better and harder to make sure our kids feel comfortable,” he said. “I have to find different ways to create different scenarios.”
